                                                                    History of Trenholm Little League

Trenholm Little League, the only Little League in Columbia, South Carolina, was founded in 1990 by several members of the Columbia community, including Bill Griffin and Sonny Jones.  Trenholm Park, which was the very first park opened by the Richland County Recreation Commission would become home to Trenholm Little League. Bill Griffin was the first president of Trenholm Little League until 1994 and Sonny Jones would then become president from 1994-2000.   Mr. Griffin and Mr. Jones each have a baseball field at Trenholm Park named after them.

Over the years, Trenholm Little League has had a total of 13 league presidents.

Trenholm Little League has a long and storied history as far as its baseball and softball programs.  Four years after its founding, Trenholm Little League was the South Carolina Little League (Majors) Baseball Champions.  In its 28 year history, Trenholm Little League has won 43 Little League district and state championships.  The Trenholm Little League Softball program has won nine district and state Little League championships since 2014, including state championships in Coach Pitch Softball in 205 and 2017 and Majors Softball in 2017.

Trenholm Little League has grown significantly over the past few years.  In the spring of 2018, Trenholm Little League had a total of over 400 boys and girls registered for its baseball and softball programs.   To meet these needs, Trenholm Little League added three fields, Satchel Ford School fields #3 and #4 and Perrin Thomas Park.   Trenholm Little League has worked with Richland County Recreation Commission in putting in new dugouts at each of the Trenholm Park fields, as well as renovations to the Satchel Ford Fields.

Trenholm Little League believes in giving back to its community.  Each season Trenholm Little League provides scholarships to players who would be otherwise unable to afford playing baseball or softball in Trenholm Little League.   In 2016, Trenholm Little League renamed their scholarship fund the Greg Alia Scholarship Fund in honor of Forest Acres Police Officer Greg Alia, who lost his life in September 2015 while protecting his community.

Trenholm Little League thanks all its wonderful sponsors, which you can find on our sponsors page for providing the necessary support needed to help run our league.   We also thank all the parents, volunteers and members of the Columbia community that have helped make Trenholm Little League one of the largest youth sports organizations in Columbia, South Carolina.  We look to make a lot more history for years to come.
